Costume Designers for “Slumdog Millionaire,” “Ugly Betty” and “Mad Men” Among Others, Received Top Honors at Gala on February 17

LOS ANGELES, CA—February 17, 2009 – The Costume Designers Guild announced the winners of the 11th Annual Costume Designers Guild Awards at their award gala on February 17th at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.  The Guild, along with SWAROVSKI as presenting sponsor, bestowed awards for costume design excellence in seven categories for films, television and commercials.  In addition to the competitive awards, honorary awards were given to recipients of the SWAROVSKI President's Award, the Career Achievement in Television Award and the LACOSTE Career Achievement in Film Award.

The event was hosted by Emmy® Award winning actress Debra Messing and included presenters such as Sharon Stone, Kristin Davis and Chris Noth. Attendees also included: Anjelica Huston, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Jane Kaczmarek, Taraji P. Henson, Jennie Garth, Kathy Griffin, Jon Cryer, Peter Facinelli, and Tichina Arnold.

The Swarovski President's Award was presented by Sharon Stone to two-time Academy Award winner Michael Douglas (Wall Street, One Flew Over the Cukoo’s Nest).  Ten-time Emmy Award winning Director James Burrows (Will & Grace, Frasier, Taxi, Cheers) received the Distinguished Collaborator Award. Academy Awards nominee, producer, director and costume designer, Marilyn Vance (The Untouchables, Pretty Woman) was the recipient of the Lacoste Career Achievement in Film Award.  Anjelica Huston presented the Career Achievement in Television Award to Emmy Award winner, Van Broughton Ramsey.

The Costume Designers Guild was founded in 1953 by a group of 30 motion picture costume designers and was created in response to the changing needs of the movie industry. The Costume Designers Guild promotes the artistry, technical expertise and creative vision of their union members in the field of film and television Costume Design.  Today, its
membership consists of over 700 members and includes motion picture, television, and commercial costume designers, assistant costume designers and illustrators throughout the world.
