TYROLIT, the abrasives manufacturer from the Austrian Tyrol is now the leading supplier of specialist grinding applications.
A story about enduring success is always a pleasure to relate. Right from the first decades of the 20th century, Swarovski as the leading producer of cut crystal in Wattens was also manufacturing its own tools for grinding and polishing crystal. By establishing his own production centre, Daniel Swarovski, the company's founding father thus ensured his company always had the kind of abrasives it needed for its crystal production process. That was back in 1919. Inventive talent and innovation were therefore present even when the Swarovski Group’s TYROLIT was first founded. This is a company mindset that continues to prevail right up to the present day.

Today TYROLIT is regarded throughout the world as a leading supplier of every type of specialist grinding application and provider of all-round solutions. With its 80,000 products, the company has long been a Champions League team in the abrasives manufacturing sector. As part of the family-owned Swarovski Group of companies, TYROLIT has over 4,600 employees at 25 production locations throughout the world and in 2007 posted record sales of € 537m. Basic industries all over the world put their trust in TYROLIT products and process solutions. High-tech equipment from TYROLIT allows these companies to grind, cut and drill practically every available material, regardless of its density. Today TYROLIT plays a leading role wherever concrete, stone, glass, wood, metal or synthetics are processed.
Everyone, every day, even if indirectly, comes into contact with products that were manufactured in the TYROLIT factory in Schwaz, a historic mining town in the Austrian Tyrol, which has been home to the company headquarters since 1950. Schwaz is both the head office of the management of TYROLIT and host to the plant, which employs over 1,200 people, including around 170 in Research and Development. It therefore serves as both the heart and the brain of the company. As a result, TYROLIT is living proof that regional responsibility and a globally active entrepreneurial spirit do not have to be contradictory forces.
