Passages Of Night

DANIEL SWAROVSKI COLLECTION AUTUMN-WINTER 2008/2009
A bustling megalopolis, at around 9pm. A women leaves her office, jumps into a taxi and disappears into the night. Lights flash by, neon signs clash and merge forming a dazzling palette, both mysterious and electric. A citizen of the night, this urban heroine leads us into a whirl of revelry. An exhibition opening, drinks in the lobby of a hip new hotel, dinner with girlfriends then onto an underground club or a late-night gig… Only at sunrise does she think about going home. Curious, outgoing and adventurous, passionate about art and music, she doesn’t want to miss a thing. She lives and breathes this nocturnal world and its exhilarating atmosphere.
The lights of the city with its myriad of colours and shapes, reflect the various facets of this night owl, so eclectic and energetic. Those same lights inspire the jewellery and accessories that define her attitude and illustrate her magnetism. Each place she passes through, and every experience she relishes from dusk to dawn, permeates the new Daniel Swarovski collection christened “Passages of Night”.
Blacks and off-blacks, ultraviolet, electric blue, and fuchsia, all glinting as if under the black light of a nightclub, flashing brightly like neon lights. The colours are hypnotic and versatile, creating persistence of vision effects, a kaleidoscope of hues, never quite the same from one glance to the next. A creature of the night with a glam rock style, sometimes verging on punky, with a hint of masculinity, she also luxuriates in sensual delights, sultry and mysterious. Cutting-edge and trendy; labels feature heavily in her wardrobe, identifying her as a member of the Luxury tribe. All these points of reference guided Nathalie Colin Roblique, Artistic Director at Swarovski, on this nocturnal, urban journey.
Sophisticated, stylish to the core, her heroine mixes and matches jewellery like no one else, combining their facets and sparkles to give them a new form, a new function. Around her neck, she combines a shirt collar and a jabot tie from the “Faker” line, which marries python, pearls and crystals. An aficionado of unusual jewellery and a design of exaggerated proportions, she can’t resist a “Falls” tie necklace, composed of large pyramidal crystals that run the length of a long, voluminous pampille, or its ultra-long, extra-chic version.
Her chunky “Fiction” ring, with its large facet-cut crystal, reminiscent of an asymmetrical star, is held in place by a detachable chain bracelet: it gives her a unique air, a grace that draws glances. On another finger, she has chosen to wear the “Fraction” ring, with its asymmetrical silver base overflowing with crystals of all shapes and sizes.
A lover of all kinds of luxury, she succumbs to the beauty of an effect; the precision of a rare technique: her middle finger is adorned with a two-sided “Fair Play” ring, a large Ingot-cut stone, half devoured by glimmering Pointiage set crystals that also envelope the silver ring.
The bags from the Daniel Swarovski collection reflect the glam, punk rock and sexy facets of this eclectic woman. There is plenty of room for her numerous invitations to cocktail parties and opening nights in the black leather rocker-style “Fusion” bag. Ambivalent, the side unzips to reveal a lining of crystal mesh and bright violet padded leather. In the same masculine/feminine spirit, the “Faith” bag is inspired by the trench coat; with an asymmetrical python flap in shades of fuchsia held in place by a large Jet crystal cabochon, and a shoulder strap, and stylised black crystal mesh hand strap offering two carrying options.
For dinners out, she opts for a “Frisson” purse, whose two pockets close with asymmetrical flaps of leather and gold crystal mesh, complemented by a chain handle of crystal pavé links. Some evenings, she heads out with a violet crocodile “Fiction” clutch bag, set off with an enormous Point cut crystal, or the “Fabulous” model, with its embroidered crystals interlaced with chains of Jet crystal, and its long metal clasp.
The lights of the city never go out. Nor do those of the “Passages of Night” collection.
