JOLIBE - New York Spring/Summer 2010
For S/S ’10 JOLIBE has been inspired by the pale aqua-hued stones seen in the dried bed of a river in the Chilean Andes; appropriate in this first season of collaboration with Swarovski. JOLIBE is designer Joel Diaz and art director/stylist Christina LaPens. It was she who brought back a stone from South America and says that it was the starting point in terms of shape, colour and texture. ‘It is the colour of oxidized copper, an Art Deco green, perfect for spring and summer. Joel and I were drawn to the more organic crystal shapes and shades in the CRYSTALLIZED™ – Swarovski Elements range; the opal beads in Air blue, Sand, Pacific and Light grey, rose and violet and the wonderful gold and cream Swarovski pearls’ The collection comprises glamorous cocktail dresses and knitwear, designed by Joel are both encrusted with sew-on stones and decorated with Hot fix crystals to create a sense of texture and depth. ‘There is a great deal of experimentation’, say JOLIBE, and that is very much part of our identity, and our work with Swarovski enabled us to elevate our work to a fantasy level.
