Jason Wu - New York Spring/Summer 2010
For his S/S 10 collection, Jason Wu is inspired by sculptor Tara Donovan and has sought to ‘make the ordinary items of clothing extraordinary. Transformation is the theme,’ he says. And through that journey, in which ‘traditional elements have been used in a new way’, his collaboration with Swarovski has been important. CRYSTALLIZED™ – Swarovski Elements have been applied intelligently and with a sense of playfulness, used in day as well as evening wear. Stones are sew-on Square Lochrose and pendants. There is a decadent beaded cummerbund; a crystallized upgrade on traditional satin, a silk jersey T shirt, embroidered with tiny crystals, a sweatshirt that has become a jacket decorated with crystal. ‘My philosophy,’ says Wu ‘is that it is not about price. It is about clothes being beautiful both inside and out.’ And this season Atelier Swarovski has collaborated with Wu, producing a collection he describes as reflecting the textural and sculptural influences that inform his fashion work.
