Ideeen - New York Spring/Summer 2010
In their first season of collaboration with Swarovski, Ideeen’s Atsuko Yanase, and Junko Hirata have looked to the printed cottons worn by many women in Kenya seen through the prism of Swedish artist Heidi Lange. S/S 10 is all about ‘the meaning of clothes for us,’ says Yanase. ‘The palette is earthy, with spice-like colours; deep oranges, reds, browns and golds.’ Ideeen, aimed at the woman who is elegant, individual, mature and strong, continue to give their work the weight of ideas. ‘Clothing has meaning and we wanted to focus on this. In Africa, decoration is symbolic,’ argues Yanase. The CRYSTALLIZED™ – Swarovski Elements used on between six to ten styles are all applied onto the fabric with a graphic aesthetic. The crystals are in the latest organic, ‘natural’ shapes, in transfer and sew-on stones and in a rich variety of types, from jet pendants to Galactic stones and Cosmic baguettes.
