Marios Schwab - London Spring/Summer 2010

Marios Schwab says that fantasy – the ‘novelty of innocence’ – is a leading theme for his S/S10 collection, which, in part, set about challenging current notions of proportion in dress. Colours are pale, washed out pinks and clashing dark greens amongst a varied colour palette and the CRYSTALLIZED™ – Swarovski Elements like pieces of jewellery within the garments, glimpsed under layers of organic muslin, or adding a decorative relief to collar, so not for Schwab the glorious exuberance of a baroque moment. This is his seventh collaboration with Swarovski and each time crystals have been used in unexpected and exciting ways. For this season, Schwab has worked with fancy stones and crystal fabric, including the avant-garde and galactic pendants, as well as droplets, metal trimmings and hot fix. The themes are loosely volume and memories, with orchid-like colours. ‘I love to challenge myself by using fabrics and materials which are new to me,’ Schwab continues, ‘developing techniques to use them in unexpected and innovative ways.’
