Louise Goldin - London Spring/Summer 2010
Louise Goldin has been watching The Tudors. The costumes by Joan Bergin interested her and consequently she visited the Baroque exhibition at the V&A and went on to look at Rococo dress and embroidery. Hence the theme for S/S 10; except Goldin’s vision is never merely retro and the knitwear-based collection promises to be dynamic and challenging, a futuristic baroque configured through Goldin’s rich imagination and technical prowess. CRYSTALLIZED™ – Swarovski Elements are part of the story. Both stones and crystal mesh add to the mille-feuille of fabrics: chiffon, lace, tulle, embroidery, leather. There is also influence from Gianni Versace in the short hemlines and pastel palette, so crystals appear in baby blues, jonquils, violets, milky pinks and golds, set against black jet, in hot fix and hand embroidered technique. ‘Swarovski adds another level to design,’ says Goldin, ‘and adds strength to fabrics like jersey. I’ve used crystals to bring texture and shine and movement. Crystal brings a cool glamour to the collection.’
