To change attitudes and behaviour in society, children and young people are a prime target audience. Not only are they the decision makers of the future, but they also act as ambassadors that convey messages to families and communities. The Waterschool programme, in three locations along the Yangtze (Shangri-la, Sichuan and Shanghai), seeks to educate children about the sustainable management of scarce water resources and to motivate them to convince their local communities to take some action.
